Ans Volkers

The first art project I took part in is 'Beeldnomaden' / 'Image nomads' (2004). This is an initiative of 'Unit 1' from Alkmaar. The whole project took six weeks. Every week an artist worked in / from a sea container, which was at a location in Alkmaar for a week. In the week that I worked on the project, the container was in front of the prison 'Schutterswei', on the edge of park 'de Hout'. I became fascinated by that contrast; the freedom of the park, so that the imprisonment in Schutterswei was barely palpable. That week I worked on a video artwork that would eventually consist of five video films. Every day I made a new video so that the passing audience could see the artwork grow. In the morning I filmed in the area and in the afternoon I sat in the sea container to edit the footage. I then showed the result on a screen. And so, a screen was added every day, with a new video. I also kept a log every day, so that the development of the artwork could be followed via the internet. The website on which this was shown no longer exists.
